My Dear Ramesvar das Prabhu:
Please accept my humble obeisances at your feet. Enclosed please find the concluding words to Srila Prabhupada’s translation and commentary of Chaitanya Charitamrita. It will read this evening at the special Sunday program. Srila Prabhupada has already resumed work on Srimad Bhagawatam the Fifth Canto. The perennial cloud over Srila Prabhupada’s literary achievements is our his disciples own ineptitude in management and impurity and disobedience that diverts Srila Prabhupada’s attention from his books. Just now it is New York where a big GBC man has fallen down. “Big Big monkey/big big belly/ Sri Lanka jumping/Melancholy.” But at the same time Srila Prabhupada is very encouraged by the book distribution reports, such as the 600 Bhagawatams in one weekend in L.A.
The same day Srila Prabhupada finished C.C. from Dai Nippon came three new volumes of S.B. and the new edition of T.L.C. This coincidence Srila Prabhupada said was nice and very encouraging. “Who is the foolish person not purchasing our books?” he asked. “Where will they get such books?” he said as he leafed through the new volumes. “Therefore they are ordering 60 volumes.”
“Jadurani is very active,” he said looking at the paintings. “The paintings make it very nice. This picture of Lord Shiva on the cover of S.B. 4:3 is very nice.” He especially remarked about the color photograph of himself on the rear cover of TLC. “Wherefrom they select these photographs? They select very nicely.” Also, “The index enhances the prestige.”
I aid as the new books were being put on his shelf that could not contain all the Bhagawatams and so on as well as the new German books just brought by one Indian life member who was travelling abroad. “Srila Prabhupada, you have written an entire library, the Bhaktivedanta library.” “Yes, he smiled broadly, “It requires a closet to keep all the books. You make one closet and they will purchase. Because we are very popular, they will purchase, the Bhaktivedanta Library Closet.”
I hope this meets you in good health.
Your servant,
Brahmananda Swami
Personal Secretary
