June 18th, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Gurudas Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances. I am in due receipt of your letter to His Divine Grace dated 14th June 1977.As you know Srila Prabhupada has been very ill and has requested that as far as possible He be spared from all the problems of our Society. Srila Prabhupada requested me that whenever some good news come I can tell Him. Otherwise it is best that He not be burdened will all our problems.

Actually Srila Prabhupada has not been informed that you had gone away and were having these difficulties. So to read Him your letter would not be very “good news.” It is stated in the Bg,

api cet suduracaro bhajati mam anayabak sadhur eva samantavya samyag vyavasito hissah ksipram bhavati dharmatma sasvac-chantim nigacchati kaunteya pratijanihi na me bhaktah pranasyati

(BG 9.30)

Due to our previous bad habits, sometimes there may be a falldown. But by our association with Krsna consciousness we can recognize our mistake and right ourselves. So there may have been some trouble, but now why not try to make your life perfect with Krsna consciousness. You know it is the only way, simply you have to regulate your life and control the senses. It is difficult but it is certainly well worth it when we see how much suffering there is going on around us.

Now you say that you are once again with Harikesa Swami. If you begin preaching no doubt you will be successful, and then when your report comes I shall be too much happy to read it to Srila Prabhupada before all other letters. It is better to be in Srila Prabhupada’s mind as a victorious preacher rather than as another devotee having problems. I pray that Krsna gives you the strength to recover.

You will be glad to know that Srila Prabhupada’s health is gradually improving and His Divine Grace has begun to translate in the afternoon as well as the evening which He has not done for many years. Please pray fervently for His complete recovery. Hoping this meets you well.

Your servant,

Tamal Krsna Gosvami

Secretary to Srila Prabhupada
