London,

September 10, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Satsvarupa Maharaja,

Please accept my most humble obeisances at your feet.

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter with the enclosed questions to be asked to Srila Prabhupada regarding His biography. As His health is not good enough yet, I will keep these questions pending. Rest assured at the first opportunity I will begin to ask them. I thank you very much for the opportunity to engage in this service. Enclosed please find a fantastic report on the opening of the Sri Krishna Kaliya Temple in Fiji. I am sure that Back to Godhead will want to run an article on this tremendous event. Srila Prabhupada highly appreciated this report and asked that it be printed in the Back to Godhead. You can make the necessary adjustments but the report is certainly wonderful and should definitely be utilized (especially considering the fact that how discouraged Yasodanandan Maharaja is, whether rightly or wrongly). I sent you some time ago from Bombay a letter regarding a bogus gurus in Jagannath Puri which Srila Prabhupada wanted published in the letters to the Editor section. So far to date it has not been published. Your reason may be that you think it is not of interest to the hundreds of thousands of people who read the magazine. However it is very important issue which should be clarified. I would do this ordinarily in a newsletter form. However there are so many thousands of non-devotees who on account of getting our magazine and reading it go to India. So many persons are affected by our movement and thus develop a desire to go to India. Thus, they sometimes go to Jagannath Puri and may be cheated by this person. At least if they read this news item they will be able to better discriminate who is the genuine guru and who is not. You might want to add a few paragraphs to my short letter giving some stress of emphasis to Mayapur or Vrndavana as a genuine place of pilgrimage. But somehow I think the letter should come out in the magazine. While most of the articles should appeal to everyone, when there is an important issue to be discussed openly, our magazine should be a platform on which to have it aired. That is the advantage of having our own magazine, that we can say what we want, without having to take the permission of some rascal editor.

Hoping this meets you in the best of health and Krishna consciousness.

Your servant,

Tamal Krishna Goswami
Secretary to Srila Prabhupada
