(Conversation with Hanuman Prasad Poddar)

Prabhupāda: Ratha-yātrā. Oikhankar jinish oikhanei. (Things of there, are there.)

Hanuman: (indistinct Bengali) . . . bhagavaner nam kora, bhagavaner bhakti kora eisob jinish. (Things like chanting Lord's name, worshiping Lord, all these.)

Prabhupāda: Eidekhun ei gr . . . e hochche grhastha, ei hocche sannyasi . . . (indistinct) . . . sabai mile korte hocche, gṛhastha ache! (Look this is gr . . . he is a gṛhastha, he is sannyasi . . . (indistinct) . . . everyone is doing it together, he is a gṛhastha!)

kibā vipra, kibā nyāsī, śūdra kene naya
yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā, sei 'guru' haya
(CC Madhya 8.128)

Hanuman: Nischoi, nischoi, ta boi ki. (Of course, of course, why not.)

Prabhupāda: "One has to learn the science of Kṛṣṇa, then he becomes spiritual master. It does not matter whether a sannyāsī or a gṛhastha." Apni yeman gṛhastha. As you are grhastha.

I've known gṛhastha he was 1000 times better than so many sannyāsīs (laughs), Mahaprabhur sob baro baro shishya chilo grhastha, Nityānanda prabhu—gṛhastha, Advaita prabhu— gṛhastha, uni nijeo grhastha chilen, grhastha holei ye ekbare patit hoye gelam erom to katha na. Eta Mahaprabhu bolechhen. (There were many sincere disciples of Mahaprabhu were gṛhastha. Nitynanda prabhu-gṛhastha, Advaita prabhu-gṛhastha, he himself was gṛhastha, gṛhastha means most fallen this is not fact. Mahaprabhu said this.)

kibā vipra, kibā nyāsī, śūdra kene naya
yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā, sei 'guru' haya
(CC Madhya 8.128)

Hanuman: Nischoi, tate apot . . . (Of course, there is no objection . . .)

Prabhupāda: (indistinct Bengali) . . . okhane kore dekha yacche ye, ei Mahāprabhur ye movement, (after doing this in that place we can see the movement of Mahaprabhu. it is very important.) Systematically ekhane korleo, ekhane ye samasta, golmal hocche sob theme yabe. (If we do this here, then whatever clutter is going on here, all will be stopped.)

Hanuman: Ekhane onek comitir lok, onek rakomer lok . . . (People of many communities, many types of people are here . . .)

Prabhupāda: Tai hoyeche nischoi. (So it must have been. Yato mat tato path.)

Hanuman: Ek . . . apni ekta bhab niye cholchen, sei bhabtai ye grahan korte pare se to bujhbe, ki kaj hocche. Ta na hole . . . (One . . . you are carrying an idea, one who can accept that idea he can understand, what is going on. Otherwise . . .)

Prabhupāda: Bhutva bhava sa maṇḍita.

Hanuman: Ta na hole onyera yara dekhbe, tara ni . . . nijer cokhe dekhbe to. (Otherwise other people who will see, they will see with their own eyes.)

Prabhupāda:

Ataḥśrī-kṛṣṇa-nāmādi
na bhaved grāhyam indriyaiḥ
(CC Madhya 17.136)

Hanuman: Yeman drsti temon drshya. Drsti, drsti nirman kare. Yekhane . . . (indistinct) . . . sekhane lav nei. (Such a vision is such as scene. Vision made a scene. Where . . . (indistinct) . . . there is no benefit.)

Prabhupāda: Bharatvarse. In India.

Hanuman: Na ei Gora . . . Gorakhpure. (No in this Gora . . . Gorakhpur.)

Prabhupāda: Gorakhpure . . . emni program to car-pach din hoy. Tarpore bhagavaner jevabe . . . (In Gorakhpur usually the program runs for five to six day. And then as they do with the Deity . . .)

Hanuman: Ami erokom mone kori . . . (indistinct) . . . eikhane uthben apni, amio . . . bole, lok pathiye deoa hobe, uni yeman bhak . . . bhaktader . . . bhakta manus. (I think like this . . . (indistinct) . . . you will come here, myself also . . . will tell, people will be sent, as he is a devotee . . . of a devotee . . . he is a devotee.)

Prabhupāda: Beshidin yodi thakar kono program hoy, tahole apnar ekhane jayga ache. Apnar ekhane thakbar kato loker jayga hobe? (If there is a program to stay longer, so you have a place. How many people can stay in your place?)

Hanuman: Kato lok thakte chan? (How many of you want to stay?)

Prabhupāda: Sange ache, abasya pray ba . . . batrsh jon. (We have almost thir . . . thirty two persons.)

Hanuman: Thakte pare. Amader ekta alada ye ghar ache tarnam hocche Kṛṣṇa-niketan. Ta apnara ki . . . (They can stay. We have another house, name of that is Kṛṣṇa-niketan. So will you all . . .)

Prabhupāda: Oh! Taholeto amaderi ghar. Government service, yeman government servant yeman government ke guest house thakte den, temon. (Oh! (laughs) Then that is our house. (laughs) Government service, just like government servants give the government to stay in guest houses, like that. We are servant of Kṛṣṇa we have got claim.) (laughs)

Hanuman: Ami tai to shunlam. Ke atkabe! (That's why I am asking. Who will stop.)

Prabhupāda: īśāvāsyam idaṁ sarvam: (ISO 1) Apnar kati nati? ekti? (How many grandsons do you have? One?)

Hanuman: Duti. Ekta ei, ar ekti ei. (Two. One is here, another is here.)

Prabhupāda: Ar ei chele ki natir chele naki! (And is this the son of your grandson.)

Hanuman: Na, e amar natir chele noy . . . hoche paribareri . . . (indistinct) . . . (No, he is not the son of my grandson . . . he is one of the family members . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Prabhupāda: . . . (indistinct Bengali)

Hanuman: Meye eseche. Daughter came.)

Prabhupāda: Accha. Accha.

Hanuman: Amader gharer meye. Oi . . . Gita, yake apni dekhechen to. Our own daughter. (She is . . . Gītā, you have seen her.)

Prabhupāda: Accha! Accha!

Hanuman: Paresher wife! se eseche . . . (indistinct) . . . (Wife of Paresh. She has come . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Prabhupāda: . . . (indistinct Bengali)

Hanuman: . . . (indistinct Bengali)

Prabhupāda: Uni apnar Natni? (Is she your granddaughter?)

Hanuman: (indistinct Bengali) . . . tar shashuri, oi Paresher maa se car tarikh sekhan theke amar ekhane achen. (Her mother-in-law, Paresh's mother came here from there on the 4th of date.)

Prabhupāda: Ekhane esechen? (Came here?)

Hanuman: Ora ekhane thake. Ajit to ekhane thake. (They live here. Ajita also lives here.)

Prabhupāda: Kailasher to duti maa ache. (Kailash has two mothers.)

Hanuman: . . . (indistinct Bengali)

Prabhupāda: Uni besh bhalo, amader khub yatna karechen. Kichudin aro sob thakun, apnara thaklei loker upokar. (She is very good, she cares for us very much. You please live for more years, as long as you live people will be benefited.)

Hanuman: Yeman tar icche. (As the Lord wants.)

Prabhupāda: Parikshit Maharajer bisaye jijnasa korechilo ye, tini to yatodin thakten loker upakarer jonye. Tini erom bhabe asamaye sarir tyag korlen keno? Eita prosno hoyeche. Yader thakle jagater upakar hobe, tara erom bhabe voluntarily sarir charben keno? Erom bhabe ekta question hoyeche. (Once it was asked about Parikshit Maharaj, that is, as long as he lived for the benefit of the people. Then why did he untimely leave his body? This question was asked. The world will be benefited by the presence of those, why do they leave their body voluntarily? A question was asked like this.) Lokānāṁ hita-kāriṇau. Gosvamira . . . gosvamider bishaye ache. (The goswamis . . . these are about goswamis:)

nānā-śāstra-vicāraṇaika-nipuṇau sad-dharma-saṁsthāpakau
lokānāṁ hita-kāriṇau tri-bhuvane mānyau śaraṇyākarau
rādhā-kṛṣṇa-padāravinda-bhajanānandena mattālikau
vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yugau śrī-jīva-gopālakau
(Śrī Śrī Ṣaḍ-gosvāmy-aṣṭaka 2)

Prabhupāda: Lokānāṁ hita-kāriṇau, sadhu, vaisnava tader jibantai hocche paropakarer janya. (sadhu, Vaisnava—their life is only for helping other.)

patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo vaiṣṇavebhyo namo namaḥ

Hanuman: Eta shikhiyechen Mahaprabhu, "ami loko upakar kori" Mahaprabhur shishyara e mane na, arthat "trnadapi sunicena", amra ki korbo! sob tini e koracchen sob. (This is what Mahāprabhu taught, the disciples of Mahāprabhu don't think that is "I help other people", so "trnadapi sunicena," what we do? Actually he (God) is doing everything.)

Prabhupāda: Tato achei. Ekhon katha . . . ekta katha hocche ye Bhagavan bolchen, (That's it. Now the thing is . . . one thing Bhagavan said is,)

māṁ hi pārtha vyapāśritya
ye 'pi syuḥ pāpa-yonayaḥ
striyo vaiśyās tathā śūdrās
te 'pi yānti parāṁ gatim
(BG 9.32)

Prabhupāda: Pāpa-yonih yara tara amake ashraya korle tarao pora gati labh korbe: (Those who are pāpa-yonih, if they take shelter unto me, they will be also delivered:)

kiṁ punar brāhmaṇāḥ puṇyā
bhaktā rājarṣayas tathā
(BG 9.33)

Ei jagate ye papa-yonih ache taderke uddhar korar darkar ki na? (The papa-yonih of this world, they also need salvation, or not?)

Hanuman: Darkar boi ki? darkar to ache. (Why don't they need? Must need.)

Prabhupāda: Sei janya Mahaprabhu bolechilen ye: (That's why Mahāprabhu said this:)

bhārata-bhūmite manuṣya janma haila yāra
janma sārthaka kari' kara para-upakāra
(CC Adi 9.41)

Papa-yonih ke papa-yonih rekhe dile cholbe na. Bharatvarser eiye yuddha holo, Pakistan holo, papa-yonih ke papa-yonih rekhe deoa holo. Tader ke uddhar kara holo na. (We should not left papa-yonih as papa-yonih. There was a war in India, and Pakistan developed, this way papa-yonih was left as papa-yonih. They were not delivered.)

Hanuman: Seto bere yacche. (They are increasing.)

Prabhupāda: Huh?

Hanuman: Seto bere yacche. (They are increasing.)

Prabhupāda: Sutarang ei process ta hochche, Mahaprabhur process ta, ye, pacjonke uddhar kara eta Bharatbasir kartabya. (So the process is, the process of Mahāprabhu, that is, giving salvation to five people; this is the duty of every Indian. is the duty of every Indian.)

Hanuman: Ta nije . . . mane bhakter nijer kono kaj nei. Ei tar kaj. (Himself . . . means, the devotee doesn't have any work for himself.)

Prabhupāda: Bhagavaner seva, ar bhagavan . . . (Serving the Lord, and the Lord . . .)

Hanuman: Ei ye bhavaner seva! (This is service to the Lord.)

Prabhupāda: Eta Bhagavaner seva. Bhagavan bolchen, (Yes this is service of the Lord. The Lord said:)

sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
(BG 18.66)

Ar amra bolchi, sob chere Kṛṣṇa bhakta hao. (And we are also saying, leave all your materialistic activities and become a devotee of Kṛṣṇa.)

Hanuman: Oito bhagavan ya bolchen to! (This is what the Lord is saying, right.)

Prabhupāda: Na, bhagavan ya bolche seita amra bolchi. Sutarang amra bhagavaner representative. Amra canvas korchi. (No, we are saying the same as the Lord is saying. So we are the representatives of the Lord. (laughs) We are canvassing. Boliye Gosvai. What you are saying about it, Gosvai. We are canvassing.)

Jo bhagavan Kṛṣṇa hey, (The Lord, Kṛṣṇa,)

kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam (SB 1.3.28)

Uske caran mey prabritti karo. (Simple thing, just be engaged in the service of his feet. Simple thing.)

Hanuman: Yeh sabse badi lok seva hey. Sabse badi lok seva. Kisiko Sri Kṛṣṇa ke taraf mila dena, yeh sabse bada . . . (This is the greatest service to humanity. Greatest public service. Bring someone to Sri Kṛṣṇa, this is the greatest . . .)

Prabhupāda: I am very well pleased that you are . . . certified that this is the greatest service to the humanity.

Hanuman: Greatest service, greatest service. no doubt, greatest service.

Prabhupāda: Thank you very much. Ta ete . . . ei service er jonye, samasta bairer lok ei jinishta nebar khub prostut. Tara to . . . (indistinct) . . . (So this . . . for this service, all foreigners are ready to take this service. For this materialistic way of life . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Hanuman: . . . (indistinct Bengali)

Prabhupāda: Athāto brahma jijñāsā (Vedānta-sūtra). Ta ekhane sob procharak tairi korbo, kore sara duniya . . . eta holo Bharatvarser dan, r ekhon Bharatvarsa bhikiri, kebol bhikye korte jay. (So I will prepare many preacher here, and send them to all over the world . . . this will be the best gift from India, and nowadays India is beggar, only go for begging.)

Hanuman: (indistinct Bengali) . . . ta na hole. (otherwise.)

Prabhupāda: Abasya amar maton, ami kichu janina, tobe erom ekta chesta korchi. Ta apnara sakole mile sahayog korun, tahole eikhankar sob lok tairi kore er potency ta onek hoto. Cari dhare lok pathabo. (Actually like me, I don't know anything, but still I am trying. So all of you please help me, then we can prepare many preachers here and the potency of movement would be more.)

Hanuman: Chilo to, eto deshe thaka khaoadaoar jonya. Ei desheri lok sob jaygay giye . . . (They were there, for the problem of living and eating. People of this country went to every place . . .)

Prabhupāda: Na, tabe thik jinishta niye yete hobe. Baje mal niye gele kintu kaj hobe na. Asol sona niye yete hobe, tahole sob jaygay demand ache. R nakol niye gele tar kichu kaj hobe na. Eta hocche asol sona. (No, but we have to take the right thing. If we take bad things then it won't work. We have to take real gold, it has the demand in every place. If we take a fake, it won't work. This is the real gold.)

Bhagavad-gītā As It Is, kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam (SB 1.3.28), sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁśaraṇaṁ vraja (BG 18.66), man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru (BG 18.65)

Ei sloker artha Dr. Radhakrsna bolche ye, na Kṛṣṇar ye bhetare ache sei jinish ta bolche. Bhagavan bolchen 'man-manā bhava mad-bhakto' Radhakrsna ulte palte aro kichu bolchen. Kṛṣṇa r Kṛṣṇar bhitare ki tafat ache? Kṛṣṇa abar Kṛṣṇar bhetare alada, tafat ache kise? (Dr. Radhakrsna is describing meaning of this sloka is, no it is saying by the person who is in the Kṛṣṇa. Lord is saying man-manā bhava mad-bhakto and Radhakrsna changing it and saying another thing. Is there any difference between Kṛṣṇa and inner of the Kṛṣṇa? Where is the difference between Kṛṣṇa and inner of the Kṛṣṇa?)

Hanuman: Yara maya bisista isvar mane, tara ei bolche. (They are telling this, who are the believers of maya in īśvara.)

Prabhupāda: Isvar maya bisista hobe ki kore? Setai to katha. (How īśvara can be in maya? This is the thing.)

Hanuman: Tara bolche . . . tara bolche ye . . . (indistinct) . . . ei isvarer sange asol isvarer samanddhya ki? Sudhu bhetare ache. Se ja ache, se ache. (They are telling . . . they are telling that . . . (indistinct) . . . what is the relationship between this īśvara and real īśvara? They are only in our body. Whoever is, he is.)

Prabhupāda: To sei sidhanta ora grhan korena. Mahaprabhur kathata ache. (They don't accept that philosophy. There are the words of Mahāprabhu.)

Hanuman: Sei Gitar katha mane . . . sei . . . gitay ye ki kore ye bhagavan janen amra janina, tobe yatatuku bujhte pari. Gītā bolchhe, eto sadhan kore kore brahma praptir yajnata labh korbe. (The knowledge of Gītā . . . that . . . in the Gītā how the Lord knows that we don't know, but as far I can understand. The Gītā is saying that, we have to do that much sadhana as we can be qualified to reach brahma (jnana).)

brahma-bhūyāya kalpate (BG 14.26)

Tarpar brahma-bhuta hobe. (Then they will be brahma-bhuta.)

brahma-bhutaḥ prasannātmā

samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu
mad-bhaktiṁ labhate parām
(BG 18.54)

mad-bhaktiṁ, mad . . .

Prabhupāda: Ah.

Hanuman: Amar bhakti labh korbe. (You will get devotional service of mine.)

Prabhupāda: Ta brahma-bhuta hobar por. (That is after brahma-bhuta.)

Hanuman: Por, por. Samay ache er porer bar . . . (indistinct) . . . tarpore. (Yes after that, after that. We have enough time after this . . . (indistinct) . . . then.)

Prabhupāda: Ta kintu er modhye ekta katha holo . . . (But there is a thing into this is . . .)

Hanuman: Lila te prabesh korbe. (Will enter the lila.)

bhaktyā mām abhijānāti

Mane . . . mane yatodur ei samudra ke na janbe, tatodur se samudrake purnu janena. (That means . . . that means as far he won't know this ocean, he doesn't know that far about this ocean.)

Prabhupāda: Na, tatodur jnan purno noy. (No, his knowledge is not full filled yet.)

Hanuman: Jnan purno noy. (Knowledge is not fully filled.)

Prabhupāda: Sei jonye, bahunam-sambhaba,) (That's why, bahunam-sambhaba,)

bahūnāṁ janmanām ante
jñānavān māṁ prapadyate
(BG 7.19)

Hanuman: Māṁ prapadyate.

Prabhupāda: Sa mahātmā su-durlabhaḥ, bhagavan ke janar probitti holo sei asol jnan. (The will of knowing the Lord is real knowledge.)

Hanuman: Māṁ vetti, māṁ vetti . . .

manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu

(BG 7.3)

Siddhānām siddhānāṁ

Prabhupāda: Ah.

Hanuman: Kaścin māṁ vetti tattvataḥ, siddhānām jñānināṁ. Ye param jnan . . . (The topmost knowledge.)

Prabhupāda: Siddhānām muktinaṁ.

Hanuman: Muktinaṁ. Ye jnan labh kore mukta hoyeche, tader modhyeo keu keu amake jane. (Who has been liberated by gaining knowledge, among of them some of them know me.)

Prabhupāda: Eitai Chaitanya Mahaprabhur katha ye, koti jnani modhye ek matra srestha. (This is what Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, among the crore of wise persons, one is great.)

Hanuman: Oi ya byakti sei ekhane ache iyete, (About that person we can find in, bhaktyā mām abhijānāti, abhijānāti.) Eta oi slok ache. Umm . . . iyete, gopika sandarbe, (This is the verse from . . . umm . . . that is, Gopika-sandarb,)

manmahatamya matsaparya munchdradhan manmanogatam

Hanuman: Onya keu tattva ta janena. (Know one knows this tattva.)

Prabhupāda: Janei na. Thik. Sei jonye gopider ye bhajan, seita Mahaprabhu sabcheye baro bhajan boleche. Ye rambhar kashir upasana braja gopi yadyapi ya . . . (indistinct) . . . (Yes they don't know. Right. That's why Mahāprabhu said the bhajan of gopis are the top most bhajan . . .)

Usse badkar or upasana hey! (Is there any worshiping better than this.)

Hanuman: Narad . . . narada sutre narad muni likhche . . . (indistinct) . . . sutre. (Narada . . . Narada wrote in his sutra . . . (indistinct) . . . in his sutra.)

Prabhupāda: Ta, eisob bideshira sob grahan korche, ekhon amader edik theke yodi ederke besh, organize bhabe deoa hoy tahole Bharater mangal hobe. Eta apnara sakale mile sahaya korun. Ei ye jinista amader nijer sampatti, seta deoa yay. (So, all the foreigners are accepting, now if we give them this organizationally then India will be blessed. All of you help me in this. We have nothing to give them. If we . . . if we want to give them material science then it is not possible, not possible. Because they are so advanced, that we are 100 years back. Nothing will happen with that. This is our own property, so it can be given.)

Hanuman: Setai ora chay. (They want it.)

Prabhupāda: Setai ora caiche. Ora accept korechilo Bharatvarser ei jinish take. Se jonye to agraha korlo. Ar shudhu oder jonye noy, eta Bharatbashiro ote bisvasta hoya darkar. kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam. Apnar ya . . . (indistinct) . . . (They want it. They accepted this thing of India. Prabhupāda: Ki boi korchen? What movie are you making?)

Hanuman: Ei Kṛṣṇa-bhabanamritar parichay. This is the identity of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.)

Prabhupāda: Oi amader bisaye! (Oh, on us.)
