710709 - Letter to Govardhana written from Los Angeles

His Divine Grace
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

9th July, 1971

CENTER: 3764 Watseka Ave. Los Angeles, Calif. 90034

My Dear Govardhan Das,

Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated 7th July, 1971 and have noted the contents. I have already corresponded with both Bhagavan das and Bahulasva Prabhus in regards to your taking gayatri initiation and it is approved by me. Brahmin means suchi, or one who has become pure. So you must be responsible to always be very clean. Always wash after eating, always wash sufficiently after evacuating, etc. There are so many regulations to follow and if you do so faithfully then you will actually become purified. That is the process. So always remain clean, both inside and out, and instruct others in that way also. That is your duty as Brahmin.

So far as your getting yourself married is concerned, I have no objection, but you must be sure that you can meet the responsibilities of household life. Not that you may have some argument and separate. No. You must promise that you will not separate under any circumstances, but live together cooperatively to help each other to become Krishna Conscious. This is a serious proposition and not to be taken lightly. So if you agree, then you have my full blessings and sanction for this marriage.

Hoping this will meet you in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
