770630 - Letter to Chayavana from Tamal Krsna

June 30th, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Chayavana Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances at your feet. I have been instructed by Srila Prabhupada to reply your letter to Him dated June 15th, 1977.I have also received your letter dated 14th, June, 1977 addressed to me.

Srila Prabhupada was very engladdened to know that you are back in Africa and wants you to continue working here. When His Holiness Brahmananda Maharaja was here recently Srila Prabhupada indicated that Africa will develop more and more into one of the most important preaching fields in the world. Under the circumstances it will require many strong leaders to [sic] yourself to push forward the preaching there. We may not see it this time, how this will all come to pass, but I am certain that it is a fact. Africa is very rich in natural resources and gradually as the countries develop, there will be more and more possibility for spreading Krsna consciousness. Soon Brahmananda Maharaja is planning to go to West Africa. This is only a beginning. So if you want a challenging, serious, responsible service, you can find no better one that to be there. Those who are out in the field preaching are most dear to Srila Prabhupada; this I know from His Divine Grace’s lips. If you are feeling a little dissatisfied, then that means that you should become more vigorously engaged in active preaching, not sitting in the temple. Now that Brahmananda Maharaja is returning you should sit together and organize everything for [? typed over word] preaching propaganda.

Your recommendation for Srila Prabhupada’s improved health is very good but unfortunately His Divine Grace is completely independent in His treatments. So many things are recommended by well meaning devotees and well knowing persons, but His Divine Grace seems to want to choose for Himself how to be treated. His condition is generally improving at a slow pace, but at least it is not getting worse. Sometimes He even translates twice in a day. I pray this finds you well.

Your servant,

Tamal Krsna Gosvami
