770711 - Letter to Giriraj from Tamal Krsna

July 11th, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Giriraj Prabhu,

Please accept my most humble obeisances. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letters dated 30th June, 1977 and 5th July, 1977 respectively. Enclosed please find the release orders for both His Divine Grace’s bank locker as well as the one in my name. You mentioned that we are still retaining one last locker at Central Bank of India which contains all the property titles relating to the Juhu land. I thought that all of these were in a Safe Deposit Locker. What is the actual fact? Regarding the other key on the ring, we do not know exactly what it is for. Please keep it safely until we come back to Bombay.

I hope by now the transfer of Rs. 50,389/96 from State Bank has arrived. When I received your letter of 30th June stating that the money had not yet come, I went to State Bank and found that they had never sent the Demand Draft. Instead they had kept it there in the bank, perhaps to show a bigger balance in their accounts for the year ending. In any case I got very angry with them and took the Demand Draft over to Indian Overseas Bank, Vrndavana, and had them send it to their Hare Krsna Land Extension Counter. I requested in my cover letter to the IOB, Vrndavana, that the Manager kindly try to expedite the draft so that our account was credited by the 10th July in order to receive interest for the month. I think you can prevail upon the Manager of IOB to give us credit for the interest for this month for that amount, even if it arrives a little beyond the 10th.Is this possible?

I would be happy to bear the cost of whatever bills Dr. Sharma presented to you for my treatment, but before doing this I would like to examine these bills to see that they are fair. Thereafter I will be glad to reimburse you for whatever books you gave to him on my behalf.

The Fixed Deposit for Rs. 18,392/75 comes due on 3rd July, 1977.Have you deposited the Receipt with the bank and has this amount plus the interest been credited to the BBT account?

Every month the Central Bank of India, Gawalia Tank Road Branch, transfers Rs. 250 to the Syndicate Bank, Vrndavana. In looking at Srila Prabhupada’s Passbook for the Syndicate Bank, Vrndavana, Rs. 250 has been credited as being transferred from Bombay on the following dates: 1976 – January 20th, February 26th, March 29th, June 28th, July 30th, September 4th, October 4th, November 25th, December 30th.This amounts to only ten [sic] transfers for the year 1976, although the bank has been instructed to make this transfer every month. It seems to me that either the Central Bank of India has not made some of the transfers, they have become lost on the way, or Syndicate Bank is not giving us credit. I would like you to investigate from your end. In 1977 the credits from Syndicate Bank’s side are as follows: Rs. 250 was received on the following dates: January 29th, February 28th, April 11th, May 11th, June 6th, July 9th.Another question I have is why it takes so long for the transfers to come here. On what day are they being sent from Bombay? Are they sent at the middle of the month or are they sent at the end of the month? Could you please look into this whole affair and give me a report.

Srila Prabhupada is eagerly awaiting your next report of all the Bombay affairs. His Divine Grace has a cold now but most amazingly, His translation has doubled, in keeping with the doubling of book distribution around the world. Hoping this meets you well.

Your servant,

Tamal Krsna Gosvami
